Kaylynn O’Curran
Kaylynn grew up on the beautiful beaches of Encinitas, California. There she fostered her love for the outdoors, taking care of the environment, and local political organizing. Volunteering and interning with political campaigns taught her the importance of local community and using her voice for change. Needing to experience seasons, she got her BA in Environmental Policy and Decision Making and Gender Queer Studies with a minor in Education at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington. During her time in Tacoma, she was an Outdoor Leader for Puget Sound Outdoors where she got to lead backpacking, hiking, and climbing trips for her fellow students. When she wasn’t exploring Washington’s backcountry, she was helping to cultivate connections between the Sustainability Department on campus and the local Tacoma community as well as constructing educational programming on the intricate ways environmental impacts can influence communities, ecosystems and interconnected systems of power. After graduating from UPS, she moved to Far North Queensland in Australia where she volunteered with CAFNEC, a local environmental nonprofit, in order to gain a better understanding of environmentalism and community based solutions in other parts of the world. As her mother is an alumni of CTA, she knows about the incredible impact this school has on youth and is excited to bring her interdisciplinary skills to the table. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, biking, climbing, and backpacking with her dog Solana, reading every book in front of her, and doing any type of art.
